I’ve seen this described as Jump Scare: The Movie, and I guess that’s right, but not in a negative sense. This horror flick about trauma has some weighty intentions and high aspirations, but at its core, it’s trying to make you jump. It accomplishes that … and then some. With Sosie Bacon (Kevin Bacon’s daughter) as the lead, Smile is as creepy as the trailers suggest, but it manages to defy expectations with its shocking final act. I really enjoyed it and our entire theater was going nuts for it. It’s essentially an It Follows remake, but It Follows rules. -G
From now on I only want to consume my AD home tours through the commentary of this man. Shookerd covers both fashion and design on his TikTok, and he dives deep into both. The amount of knowledge Shookerd has about designers, trends, and fashion history has me knowing more about the subject than I ever thought I would. But he’s not giving you a lecture. Every video is approachable, funny, and worth the watch. -K
“new body rhumba” by LCD Soundsystem
I was mixed on the Opening Night Selection of White Noise at this year’s New York Film Festival, but despite all of my reservations, the final sequence set to this new song is as good as film can be. It’s fun, weird and the song goes so hard. I’ve had it stuck in my head ever since, and I’ll never be able to hear it without envisioning Andre 3000. -G
In The Meantime by Alessia Cara
This is an album that should be listened to all the way through at least once. The songs flow together so well. It’s truly a vibe until the end. It’s best listened to when it’s raining outside and just a little cold. -K
The Secret History written by Donna Tartt
This book took a while to get through. Not because it’s bad, but more because I’ve been bad at finishing books lately. It took a while to get going but the second half really made up for the slow start. The story revolves around a select group of students at a prestigious university trying to keep their heads above water when shit hits the fan. Donna Tartt really knows how to write snotty prep-school-esque young adults. -G
While we were going about our daily lives last week, NASA was hurtling a spacecraft at an asteroid to see if they could move it off its course. You know, just in case an asteroid really does make a beeline for Earth one day. Practice makes perfect. Oh, and they caught it on camera. -K
