Week 202
Here are some words.
Go get some soup.

Jesus Christ. This is a movie. I have a lot to think about this one, and I’ll probably end up writing more down the line, but I really loved this one and think Cate Blanchett should be a shoo-in for the Oscar. Centered on a fictional composer/conductor, TÁR has so much to say about the times we’re living in and purposefully asks questions for the audience to mull on after. Although slow and deliberate, this nearly three-hour film feels as if it ends before it begins and is both funny and tense. There’s a lot to love here, but it doesn’t work without Blanchett who has never been better and dives into the world of damaged and damaging artists. Really, really recommend this one. Right near the top for me of 2022. -G
Rafael Silveira is a Brazilian artist who makes art with a “RetroPopOpPsychodelicSurreal Twist” (his words, not mine). All of his work is trippy, but I love his portraits the most. I’ve had my eye on a print of his “Naturae Introspectae,” a portrait of a blue-haired woman with flowers growing every which way out of her face. But you may prefer the portrait of the blue-haired man with a bird riding a bicycle in his head. To each their own. Silveira paints a wild, vibrant world with every work, and there isn’t one I would hate to have hanging up in my home. -K
There’s some chess drama, and it’s fascinating. Here’s a sentence from a recent ESPN report on the cheating scandal centered on Hans Niemann: “And that brings us to anal beads.” What the hell is happening in the chess world? I didn’t think chess could be more in the zeitgeist than The Queen’s Gambit, but Anya Taylor-Joy’s show never thought to go here. -G
A list of fall one-pot recipes
It’s soup season. It’s soup season. It’s soup season. As a person who lives alone now, I love soup because it keeps so well that I don’t have to overstretch my mind trying to cut a recipe down for one. I love these recipes because there’s something for everyone: the vegetarian, the pasta connoisseur, the person who doesn’t want to do the dishes. Coincidentally, I am all those people at any given time. -K
I like these earphones. They sound good and I can run in them. Had a pair for like three years and just got new ones. That’s it. -G
“Turning Onto You” by First Aid Kit
Yes, every time a new First Aid Kit song comes out, I rec it. I’m obsessed. “Turning Onto You” feels like a song that would have fit seamlessly into Woodstock. I’ve been playing it on repeat. -K
